About

In the late summer of 1892, Walter Bonne created history by becoming the winner of the men’s singles title at the first edition of what would later become the International German Championships tournament, which in its inaugural year was held at the Uhlenhorst Club in Hamburg. From the Harvesthude area of Hamburg, Walter Bonne was just 17 years old at the time of his triumph and a member of the Pöseldorfer Lawn Tennis Club, which was located on the opposite side of the Alster river to the Uhlenhorst Club. Walter Bonne later became a doctor of law, but died in 1911 at the early age of 35.
