Studied electrical engineering in Mittweida (Saxony). Was always a keen sportsman, playing cricket, football and tennis and also being involved in athletics, boxing and cycling. Represented German companies in Portugal and Spain after graduating. Founded an engineering firm in Barcelona in 1904.
In 1904, together with several others, including Arthur Leask and the Witty brothers, Arthur (Arturo) and Ernest(o), co-founded the Barcelona Lawn Tennis Club (later the Real Club de Tenis, Barcelona). These same individuals, and others, had also co-founded, on 29 November 1899, the Football Club de Barcelona (later the Futbol Club de Barcelona).
Udo Steinberg played for FC Barcelona between the years 1900-10 and was part of the team that met Real Madrid for the first time during a special match played on 13 May 1902 in honour of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. This match was played in Madrid. Arthur Witty was also part of the FC Barcelona team.
