About

Otto Widmann was born to German parents in May 1885 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The family later moved back to Germany, where Otto received most of his schooling. Although he studied engineering after leaving secondary school, he later became a merchant and, at the time of his death, was employed by the firm Orenstein und Koppel in Berlin. Otto Widmann died in January 1912 three days after undergoing an unsuccessful appendectomy.

Otto Widmann sometimes used the pseudomym ‘Mr Mario’ when taking part in lawn tennis tournaments.
