Charlie Leslie was born in China to Dr Percy Campbell Leslie, who had Scottish ancestors, and Isabel Leslie (née Ogilvy). Charlie’s parents had married in Shanghai on 30 October 1899. His father, a medical doctor by profession, was working there at the time of his marriage.
