A paper stock and pulp merchant, Sidney Hough was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player Robert B. Hough. They were two of the five children (three sons and two daughters) of Robert Hough, senior, who was also a paper merchant, and Charlotte Elizabeth Hough (née Baldwin). Sidney Hough left nearly £100,000 in his Will on his death in October 1923 at the age of 60. His death occurred just five months after that of his brother Robert.
