Charles Plummer was the son of the renowned businessman James Henry Plummer (1842-1932), who emigrated to Canada from England in 1859, and Annie Plummer (née McConkey; 1852-1928) whose parents were Irish immigrants to Canada. Charles Plummer followed his father into the worlds of banking and business, but a severe case of appendicitis killed him in January 1910 at the age of just 32.
