About

In October 1920 Raymond Barbas married, as his first wife, Madeleine Marie Patou, sister of the dress designer Jean Patou. When Jean Patou died suddenly in 1936, Raymond Barbas and Madeleine Patou continued on the business, which had suffered during the stock market crisis of the late 1920s/early 1930s, although Maison Jean Patou, later Maison Patou/House of Patou, would survive through its perfumes. Raymond Barbas later became CEO of the company and president of the Chambre syndicale de la couture parisienne, the trade union representing fashion companies in Paris.
