Lawrence “Jimmy” Quick (1908-1990) was a standout tennis player at Oak Cliff High School in Dallas. He was the UIL singles champion three consecutive years (1924-1926). In 1924 and 1926 he finished second in the UIL doubles. Quick was the Texas Junior Champion from 1923-1926 and had a streak of 50 singles wins. In 1922 he defeated nine opponents to win the Dallas City Championship. Quick received a scholarship to the University of Texas and won 19 of 20 singles matches in 1926 but had to leave school to help support his family.
