When he was 16, his father died, and Perry had to work selling aluminum kitchen utensils to help his mother support the family. At this time he found that he was an excellent salesman. From Summit H.S. he entered Princeton. This was a good day for '17 and Princeton. He worked his way through Princeton tutoring 50 or more students. During WWI he served overseas as a captain in the artillery. His outstandingly successful business career started in 1919 with Guaranty Trust Co. of N.Y.C. and was followed by increasingly important positions with J.P. Morgan & Co., a partnership in Drexel & Co. in Philadelphia, and in 1935, founding and serving as V.P. and director of Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc., and later as a partner and managing director, all with tremendous success. His volunteer work was also prodigious: he was director of the War Loan Committee and was a member of the first and second War Bond Drives, the N.Y. State War Finance Committee, and many charities, including Seeing Eye and several hospitals. Princeton used his talents often: he was one of its most successful fundraisers as chairman of the Major Gift Committee in two drives, and he served as treasurer of '17 for 20 years and as a trustee of the University. He was also a rare sportsman He qualified for the U.S. Amateur Tennis Championship (1922) and the National Golf Championship (1932) and was a skillful fisherman in both saltwater and fresh. Perry is survived by three daughters, six grandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren, to all of whom we send our deepest sympathy.
