About

Sidney J. Watts attended Cambridge University, where he took part in the annual Varsity lawn tennis matches between Oxford and Cambridge. He married Frances Evelyn Hutchinson on 22 May 1904 in Saint George’s Church, Hanover Square, London. The marriage certificate lists his profession as Engineer. (He and his wife had two children together, a son and a daughter, but later divorced acrimoniously.)

When the Census of England and Wales was taken in April 1911, Sidney J. Watts and his family were living in a house in Addison Road, Kensington, London. The census return lists his occupation as ‘Law Student and Captain in His Majesty’s Special Reserve’. During World War One, Watts served with the Royal Engineers, the engineering section of the British Army, and rose to the rank of major.

When the special Register of England and Wales was taken in September 1939, the 60-year-old Sidney J. Watts was living in Ealing, London, with his second wife, née Katherine Jeanne Moder, whom he had married in 1914. The register lists his occupation as Travel Agent and hers as Fashion Buyer. Sidney J. Watts died in May 1967 at the age of 88.
