A dentist by profession, Rowley Scovell was the son of two other lawn tennis players, Dr Rowland Scovell and Gertrude Scovell (née Perry). Rowley Scovell lived in Scotland for many years and enjoyed a good deal of success at lawn tennis tournaments there in the 1920s and 1930s.
