Francis Ridgway studied law at Oxford University, England, and was called to the Bar as a barrister-at-law at the Inner Temple in 1883. The heir to a large fortune, he probably did not practise law subsequently. He left nearly £115,000 in his Will on his death in 1922. In the early 1880s, Francis Ridgway, his mother and one of his sisters were living in Morden, just to the north of Wimbledon in south-west London.
