About

His father was a Russian industrialist who had a cotton factory in Łódź from the beginning of the 20th century. After the outbreak of World War I, the family fled to Russia before their city was taken over by the Germans.

In 1925, Jerzy returned to Łódź from the USSR with his brother. And they both became leading Polish tennis players at once. Although ten years older Jerzy first lost in the final of the Polish championship to Stanisław Czetwertyński, but in 1927 he made his revenge, and a year later he defeated the same opponent in a decisive match by Max. Together, they won the doubles title for 6 years in a row (1926–1931), which has never been repeated in the history of Polish tennis so far.

They were also the pillars of the Lodz KLT club team, which also won the Polish team championship for 6 consecutive seasons (1927–1932).
During World War II, Jerzy Stolarow remained in Łódź and, according to some information, he signed the volkslist, even though he had Polish citizenship from 1929. In 1943, he was arrested by the Germans on charges of irregularities in the management of the family spinning mill, which he co-owned throughout his life in Poland. He was sent to the concentration camp in Stutthof, where he stayed until January 1945. After the war, he returned to Łódź and lived in a tenement house at ul. Rzgowska, opposite its former factory. After its nationalization, he worked at the "Motor" Labor Cooperative.
