About

John McDiarmid (1911-1982) began playing tennis in Fort Worth at Ted Hackney’s Meadowmere Club. He attended TCU and captained the tennis squads in 1930 and 1931. McDiarmid played tournament tennis from 1928-1938. In 1936 he achieved a No. 7 ranking by the USLTA while teaching politics at Princeton University. The same year he won the Chicago City Championships. He paired with Eugene McCauliff to win backto-back doubles titles in Cincinnati in 1936 and 1937. No other team would do so for 69 years, when Jonas Björkman and Max Mirnyi did so successfully.
