Hubert Medlycott attended Harrow School before going up to Cambridge University, where he obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.). He subsequently took holy orders and served as a vicar. He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Medlycott, of Ven House, Somerset, on 27 March 1908. He was also a gifted landscape painter and was later knighted.
