In 1919, Herbert Shipley Job was made a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.). At that point in time he was Treasurer of the Prince of Wales’s and Red Cross Fund in the Sudan. One of his children, Martin, showed promise at both tennis and cricket while attending Sherborne, a private school in Dorset, but was killed in late February 1942 while on active service over the North Sea as a flying officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He had celebrated his 23rd birthday just a few weeks earlier.
