About

John Galbraith Horn was born in Edinburgh on 16 February 1860, the son of Robert Horn (1810-78), an advocate and later Dean of the Faculty of Advocates, and Jane Miller Horn (née Galbraith; 1820-86). John was educated at Edinburgh Collegiate School, the University of Edinburgh and Oxford University. Like his father before him he also became an advocate. John’s brother William was also a lawn tennis player.

On 16 April 1885, in Trinity Church, Edinburgh, John Galbraith Horn married Caroline Elizabeth Leith-Buchanan, daughter of Sir George Hector Leith-Buchanan, 4th Baronet, and Eliza Caroline (née Tod). John and Caroline had two children together: Robert Victor Galbraith Horn (1886-1959), later Brigadier Horn, who served in the British Army with distinction during both world wars, and Flora Macdonald Galbraith Horn (1888-1943), who lived in France in later life.

John Galbraith Horn died in Évian-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie, in September 1925 at the age of 65.
