Thomas Hendry was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player William Hendry. In addition to taking part in lawn tennis tournaments, Thomas Hendry was also a renowned rugby union player who represented Scotland in the Home Nations Championship in 1893 and 1895. He was a cotton yarn merchant by profession.
