While in his twenties Rino Tommasi obtained a doctorate in political science for a thesis on the subject of the international organisation of sport. He has subsequently pursued a career in journalism and sports commentating, and is a world authority on both tennis and boxing, having written several books on both subjects. He has also won a number of awards for his work in these areas.
