Gerald William Peacocke was born on 25 June 1869, in Dublin, Ireland, to Joseph Ferguson Peacocke, who had been Archbishop of Dublin, and Caroline Sophia Peacocke (née Irvine).
Gerald Peacocke attended Trinity College, Dublin, where he was awarded a Master of Arts in Theology. He took holy orders and was appointed Curate of Holywood, County Down. In 1900, he was appointed Rector of Dundela Church in East Belfast. In 1913, he was appointed Rector of Geashill Saint Mary in the Diocese of Meath and Kildare. In 1923, he was appointed Archdeacon of Kildare, a position he held for twenty years.
Peacocke was also a notable amateur lawn tennis player who competed at tournaments throughout Great Britain and Ireland. In 1894, he was notably runner-up to Richard M. Watson in the men’s singles event at the Scottish Championships. Peacocke mainly took part in the Wemyss Bay tennis tournament, held every summer at Castle Wemyss in the Scottish Lowlands. He won the men’s singles title at this tournament several times, eventually taking possession of the Castle Wemyss Cup.
On 15 September 1896, in Dublin, Gerald Peacocke married Kathleen Amelia Crozier (b. 1870), who was also from Dublin. They had 5 children together: two sons and three daughters. Archdeacon Gerald Peacocke died in Dublin on 5 September 1950 at the age of 81.
