He was born in Alexandria in Egypt. His father was Russian, his mother was British. He studied in a Jesuit secondary school in Alexandria. He was only 17 years old when his parents passed away. After the tragic shock, his life became very difficult but he was able to survive this hard period of his life. He worked as a stockbroker at Bourse du Colon and at the same time he accepted a small job from an insurance company in Alexandria. In spite of these jobs, he had an unhappy existence.
Like his father, who was a finalist at the Athens? Olympic Games in 1906, Max also managed to enter the sport world. He represented Greece at Davis Cup.
Until 1941 Max did his military service alongside Great Britain. He injured in Tunisia.
At the end of WWII, he lived in liberated Greece.
