Alec Wilberforce was the brother of fellow lawn tennis players Herbert and Lionel Wilberforce. They were the sons of Edward Wilberforce, a barrister-at-law, and Frances (‘Fannie’) Wilberforce (née Flash) who was American by birth. When the United States Census was taken in 1900, Alec Wilberforce was living in Fort Huachucha in Arizona Territory with his wife Mattie Wilberforce (née Sargent), who was a native of California. Alec Wilberforce died at the age of 34, less than two years after this census was taken.
