About

Georg Seldte came from Magdeburg and was the younger brother of Franz Seldte (1882-1947). Both brothers were the founders of the Stahlhelm – Bund der Frontsoldaten, an organization of veterans of the Great War which had a membership of over one million former soldiers and consequently became very influential in the last years of the Weimar Republic. As the leader of the Stahlhelm since 1924, Franz Seldte became a prominent politician in the last years of the doomed Weimar Republic. Eventually, he was one of conservative politicians which convinced the old Reichspresident Generalfeldmarschall von Hindenburg to appoint Adolf Hitler to the office of Chancellor of the Reich. In return Hitler appointed Franz Seldte to Reichsminister of Labour on 30.I.1933. He remained in office up to the end of the war.
Georg Seldte was co-owner of the family business Seldte & Co. Vertriebsgesellschaft m.b.H.which after some troubles in the early twenties developed into a successful producer of vinegar essences, liqueur and spirits.
