Died at his home just short of his 100th birthday. His father co-founded the Hibernia Bank of California and he spent most of his career there. He married the beautiful Constance de Young, daughter of M.H. de Young, co-founder of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper which stayed in the family for over 100 years. He was an avid sportsman and was well known for the horse, J.O. Tobin, which was named after him. This Kentucky bred horse beat triple crown winner, Seattle Slew in a race at Hollywood Park in 1977.
