Leonardus Jacobus Anthonius Trip was president of De Nederlandsche Bank, one of the main banks in the Netherlands, from 1931 to 1946, excluding the war years 1941 to 1945.

After studying law at Utrecht University, Trip went to work at the Ministry of Finance, where he succeeded Anton van Gijn as Treasurer General in 1916. During the cabinet formation of 1918, he turned down an offer to become Minister of Finance in Ruijs de Beerenbrouck’s first cabinet.

In 1923, Trip accepted the position of director of the Javasche Bank in Batavia (Dutch East Indies) and a year later he was appointed president of that bank for five years. After returning to the Netherlands, Trip became president of De Nederlandsche Bank in 1931 under Minister of Finance Dirk Jan de Geer. He remained in that position during the beginning of the German occupation, but resigned in March 1941 when the Germans threatened to lift the foreign exchange border.

After the Second World War, in May 1945, Trip was again appointed president of De Nederlandsche Bank. On 30 Apri 1946, he resigned from that position at the age of 69 due to his old age. Less than a year later, Trip died in The Hague.

Trip was a talented tennis player. In 1900, he won the men’s doubles event at the Dutch National Championships with Baron Carel van Rappard. Two years later he became Dutch mixed doubles champion with Anthonie van Aken.
