A medical doctor by profession, Eric Burn Andreae was the brother of fellow lawn tennis player Wilfred Burn Andreae, and the son of another player, Charles Andreae. During World War One, Eric Burn Andreae served in the Royal Army Medical Corps (R.A.M.C.) in India and Afghanistan, reaching the rank of captain. He returned to New Zealand in 1948.
