Obituary – Dr Ernest F. Fookes
The death of Dr Ernest Faber Fookes occurred at New Plymouth tonight, in his seventy-fourth year. He represented England at Rugby from 1894 to 1898, and was selected for the 1905 All Blacks, but his medical duties prevented his acceptance.
Dr Fookes was born at Waverley, Wellington, and was twice married. He was educated at the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, Halifax Grammar School, and Manchester University. He held the degrees of M.B. (London), MRC.S. (England), and L.P.C.P. (London). Dr Fookes was a member of the New Plymouth Hospital Board of Governors from 1905 to 1931.
