Cole was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1867 and, representing the Liberal Party, was a Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Penryn and Falmouth from 1874 to 1880. Charles Cole was also a solicitor by profession. He married fellow lawn tennis player Edith Coleridge in April 1884. She notably reached the All-Comer’s Final of the women’s singles event at Wimbledon in 1887 before losing to the legendary Lottie Dod. Charles and Edith Cole had three sons together.
