Attended King Edward’s School, Birmingham, and Cambridge University, England, where he gained a blue for association football, hockey and lawn tennis. Played association football for West Bromwich Albion as an amateur and seven times for England. Also played cricket for Worcestershire.
Served in the 10th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers during World War I. Killed in action in Ypres, Belgium. In 1920, his old school, King Edwards in Birmingham, inaugurated the Bache Memorial Cup in his memory; it is awarded to the outstanding school sportsman each year.
